In November of 2019, two white Chester police officers fired 24 shots that resulted in the death of a handcuffed black man in a Walmart parking lot. The Chester police defend that the shooting was justified, but Chester Mayor Wanda Stringfellow has since called for the firing of the two officers. Both officers failed to turn on their body cameras during the altercation so the record of the event is inconsistent and pieced together through a review of interviews, dash cam videos, dispatch audio, and surveillance footage. This information yielded some questionable findings and calls in to question the legitimacy of the shooting. The intense media attention surrounding the murder of George Floyd caused concerns surrounding this case to resurface again in the last few weeks.
